Since being introduced in the 1960’s spunbonding has become one of the most popular methods of producing nonwoven fabrics. During the spunbonding process extruded filaments are spun onto a collecting belt and bonded by applying heated rolls.

DuPont™ Patented Process

DuPont™ SF geotextiles are composed of thermally bonded, continuous, polypropylene filaments. During the fiber extrusion process, thousands of tough, superfine continuous filaments pass through a patented “pre-stretch” stage and are directionally oriented into a sheet that is thermally and mechanically bonded. This patented production technique is one of the main reasons for the unique properties and uniform quality of SF spunbondeds compared to other geotextiles.

Spunbonded Nonwovens Stronger & Tougher

Ounce for ounce, spunbond geotextiles deliver more tensile strength and tear strength than needle-punched nonwovens. Spunbond geotextiles outperform needle-punch nonwovens in resisting installation damage, which results in a longer service life.

Equals to Typar®

DuPont™ was the original manufacturer of the Typar® geotextile line. That product line is now made by the Typar® company in Old Hickory, TN. The current DuPont™ SF product line offers equals to most Typar® nonwovens. See our Product Equivalent box at the top of this page.
